SUBSCRIBE error message

Joseph Mays
I searched in the archives for this error, but didn’t find it exactly. I should say that I am working with a system I did not set up, so my understanding of Squirellmail and Cyrus is incomplete. Redhat Linux with Squirrelmail and Cyrus Imap. Lots of users, and everything works, but one user has started getting an error message upon logging in.

ERROR: Could not complete request.
Query: SUBSCRIBE "Junk E-Mail"
Reason Given: Subscribe: Mailbox does not exist

Everything else about the mail account is there and seems to work, but the user cannot access their Junk Email folder. The folder seems to be there and accessible in the directory structure.

Just a quick guess: Check the owner and the rights on the folder. correct
it to be like the other working imap folders.

If that does not work - check your imao log files. Cyrus will tell you why
it can't access he folder. Increase Loglevel if needed.
If you need further help from this list be sure to include details like
program versions and config files…

Roland.

I'm using Dovecot and there's a .subscriptions file in every users' mail
directory. I'm not familiar with your setup - neither you completely are
as you've wrote - so I would check the subscription mechanism.
Check the permissions of the particular user's mail directory (by for e.g.
comparing to other users') and check out the subscriptions file (if it is
there in your case). There might be automatic subscriptions set up.
Therefore here comes another question: why this user haven't subscribed to
this folder? I would guess this is one of the default folders on your
setup. The user might inadvertently unsubscribed, or somehow lost the
subscription. Study the subscription file and compare it to others.
Do you have a backup? You may try to restore some key files in case they
seem to be damaged in some way...

Good luck: Dw.

That was the first thing I checked, actually; the permissions are the same as all the other imap folders.

I captured the imap logs while logging in. I don’t see anything directly relevant to the error message though.
