[SM-USERS] Spam filters not working

Rabbie Zalaf

Hi Guy’s,

I am running SM version 1.4-4 on a debian box. I use the spam filters but they just don’t filter anything!

Is there a way I can check to see if they are actually running? As in , If the messages are being filtered but nothing is being marked as spam?

Thanks.

Rabbie.

Modify and try attached shell script. The script send a SPAM mail (GTUBE)
to your local mail address.

check your hop setting in plugins/filters/setup.php.

check dnscache file in SquirrelMail data directory. It contains checked ip
addresses. If file contains only your own ip address, your hop setting is
not correct.

filters plugin provides only minimal protection. If you want better
filtering - configure RBL in SMTP server. Blacklist known spam sources
(for example listed in Spamhaus RBL), compromised hosts (abuseat.org list)
and DUL addresses (SORBS, NJABL, MAPS DUL). Second level of protection can
be provided by SpamAssassin, DSPAM or CRM114. Users should be able to
control SpamAssassin and DSPAM with sasql plugin. Third level of
protection can be provided by Bayes filtering (built in SpamAssassin or
provided by BayesSpam plugin).
