No subject or sender after ubuntu upgrade

"Andrés Chandía"

Hi there, I have had SM since ubuntu 9.04, always working great, last time I had to
reconfigure it was on ubuntu 12.10, I followed this tuto:
https://www.howtoforge.com/virtual-users-and-domains-with-postfix-courier-mysql-and-squirrelmail-ubuntu-12.10

Two days ago I upgraded my ubuntu to xenial, after some adjustmens I could start to
receive and send mails, but on my mail list I have some mails with no subject or others with
no sender, some of them with none, some times when I open the mail, there is no body, but if I
save it as a file I can see the content on the file...

Any clue, how could I solve
this, what should I check? thanks

Thanks, but the problems seems to be deeper than that, applying the patch only made some of
the things reappear, not all of them

"Andrés Chandía"
In reply to this post by "Andrés Chandía"

config.php doesn't have $allow_remote_configtest line, if I add it with = true
nothing happens
I aĺso trIed changing at

Edit src/configtest.php and find the second line that looks like this:

echo "Disallowed"; die;

Comment it out, so it looks like this:

// echo "Disallowed"; die;

We recommend that after you're done, you remove the comment marker so
that the file is once again disabled.

Then you have modified your source or obtained it from a third party,
whom you may want to contact for further help.

Sorry, for the mail thing, but I'm a little confused now, do I have to
write before or after the answer I get?
any way, is the ubuntu release a third party
distribution then? if so, I have to look for something like "ubuntu
squirrelmail"?

Yes Ubuntu is third party maintained.
Did you try just to point your browser to 127.0.0.1/configtest.php ?

should I check? thanks You might become another victim of bug #2806. Check this out:
https://sourceforge.net/p/squirrelmail/bugs/2806/
BR: Dw. -- Attila Toth MD, Radiologist, +36-20-825-8057 >
Applying this patch only solved a tiny part of the problem, for instance, I have a mail
that
without the patch displays:

sender: Foros
subject:
"NOTHING"

with the patch:
sender: Foros Clan Sudamérica
subject: "STILL NOTHING"

I have tried changing at the config the
"Default Charset" from ISO-8859-1 to ISO-8859-15 to UTF-8
Enabling and
disabling "lossy encoding", and changing "Default Language" from en_EN to
es_ES and still nothing.

ok. Now we're getting somewhere :)

My suggestions:
- Look inside your /src/ directory if configtest.php is present and
readable by your webserver
- have a look at your webserver's log why it can't be accessed
- have a look at your apache config especially the redirection / ->
/src/login.php
- fix permissions/apache config to fit

-> this doesn't look like a squirrelmail problem. Apache is your problem ;)

Remember this is the squirrelmail list not the apache list ;)

Roland.

This
error helped me a little bit more:

The /e modifier is no longer supported, use
preg_replace_callback instead in /usr/share/squirrelmail/functions/mime.php
so  I changed
accordingly, and now not all is solved but for instance I can see now some senders that I
couldn't before, eventhoug they are with strange characters, like: "T??th
Attila"

configtest.php

it has the exact same permitions as the rest of the files and I can
see from the borwser for example: http://mail.chandia.net/src/help.php

I can also
acces the file via any text editor from the shell

the apache error log says:
[access_compat:error] [pid 10996] [client 84.89.158.157:46652] AH01797: client denied by
server configuration: /usr/share/squirrelmail/src/configtest.php

At the apache
config: /etc/apache2/conf-enabled/squirrelmail.conf file I see nothing related to the
redirection of /src/login.php, maybe I'm looking the wrong file, but I have comment the lines
related to the configtest.php file:

#  <Files configtest.php>
#    order deny,allow
#    deny from all
#    allow from 127.0.0.1
#  </Files>

and still
access denied,

Ok, I still see some problems, but these ones I don't know how to resolve, so if
somebady can help me I will appreciate it a lot:

preg_replace_callback(): Requires
argument 2,
''&#'.((ord('\\1')-240)*262144+(ord('\\2')-128)*4096+(ord('\\3')-128)*64+(ord('\\4')-128)).';'',
to be a valid callback in /usr/share/squirrelmail/functions/decode/utf_8.php on line 77,

preg_replace_callback(): Requires argument 2,
''&#'.((ord('\\1')-224)*4096+(ord('\\2')-128)*64+(ord('\\3')-128)).';'', to be a valid
callback in /usr/share/squirrelmail/functions/decode/utf_8.php on line 82

preg_replace_callback(): Requires argument 2,
''&#'.((ord('\\1')-192)*64+(ord('\\2')-128)).';'', to be a valid callback in
/usr/share/squirrelmail/functions/decode/utf_8.php on line 87

preg_replace_callback(): Requires argument 2, '/chr(hexdec("\\1"))', to be
a valid callback in /usr/share/squirrelmail/functions/mime.php on line 705,

Thanks....

did you restart apache after changing the config?

as configtest produces ascii output you might as well try wget on your
server to access the file...
